Recently I found out that this unvoluntary mixing senses is less common than I thought, it's an extraordinary connection in the brain, which is called synesthesia.
I have this synesthesia most clearly with the days of the week. When I hear or read the word 'Saturday' I see a large red circle. 'Friday' has squares and is greyish violet.
In the work of my favorite artists Anish Kapoor, James Turrell and Olafur Eliasson I found photo's of the days of the week, like I see them in my inner colour world.
Tell me, are there more synesthetes outthere?
Do you see any colour when you hear a sound? Do you see black and white letters in different colours, do you taste chocolate when hearing particular music (some people do!). I would love to hear about it!
I wish you all a great, relaxing and sunny Blue Square today ;-)
April 2. 2015: There's a free app from the Nijmegen University to test if you are a synesthetic! It's called SynQuiz, it's in English, just takes a few minutes and it's great fun! You can read all about the research here. (thanks Monica for sharing!).
